Our Bible studies with a fellow Shepherd are a great way to learn God’s Word and grow in grace in addition to the use of daily reading plans to help you build a relationship with Christ.

What is the F260 and Who Should Use It?
The F-260 is a two hundred and sixty day reading plan that highlights foundational passages of Scripture. It is a manageable reading plan that people who have never read the Bible before can complete.

How Does It Work?
The plan expects people to read 1 or 2 chapters a day for 5 days each week, with an allowance for weekends off. The 2 off-days a week are built in so you may catch up on days where you’re unable to read. In order to digest more of the Bible. The F-260 encourages people to read less and to keep a H.E.A.R. Journal. (The H.E.A.R. journaling method is outlined below.)

Memorizing the Word
While many plans for memorizing the Bible are great, here is a simple and effective method. All you need is a pack of index cards and a committed desire to memorize. Write the reference of the verse on one side of the card and the text of the verse on the other. Focus on five verses at a time, and carry your pack of Scripture cards with you.

Throughout the day, whenever you have a few minutes, pull out your pack of verse cards and review them. Read the reference first, followed by the verse. Continue to recite the verse until you get a feel for the flow of the passage. When you are comfortable with the text, look only at the reference side of the card in order to test your recall.

The H.E.A.R. Journaling Method

What is the H.E.A.R. journaling method?
The H.E.A.R. journaling method is a great tool to use alongside the F260 reading plan. It is an acronym where the “H” stands for “Highlight”, the “E” stands for “Explain”, the “A” stands for “Apply”, and the “R” stands for “Respond”. It is meant to help you move from reading the Bible to applying it in your life.

Highlight
While you are reading, one or two verses will usually stand out and speak to you. Highlight or underline each verse that speaks to you.

  • The name of the book
  • The passage of Scripture
  • The chapter and verse numbers that especially speak to you
  • A title to describe the passage

Explain
Spend some time explaining what the text means by asking some simple questions:

  • Why was this written?
  • To whom was it originally written?
  • How does it fit with the verses before and after it?
  • Why did the Holy Spirit include this passage in the book?
  • What is God communicating through this text?

Apply
The application is the heart of the process. Answer a series of questions to uncover the personal significance these verses hold for you. Let God speak to you as you write two to five sentences about how the text applies to your life.

  • How can this help me?
  • What does this mean today?
  • What would the application of this verse look like in my life?
  • What does this mean to me personally?
  • What is God saying to me?

Respond
Your response to the passage may take on many forms. You may write a call to action. You may describe how you will be different because of what God has said to you through His Word. You may write a prayer to God, for example, asking Him to help you be more loving or to create in you a desire to be more generous. Keep in mind that this is your response to what you have just read.
